Californian massage
The Californian massage is known as the ‘psychosomatic massage’ due to its ability to connect body and mind through slow, enveloping and harmonious movements. Characterised by light pressure and the use of oil, this massage aims to promote deep relaxation and body awareness.
Californian massage was developed by a number of therapeutic groups in Southern California in the early 1960s to help Vietnam veterans overcome the trauma of war. This innovative technique was designed to meet the needs of people traumatised by war experiences, who needed protection and help to reconnect with themselves and others, but it soon proved useful for anyone needing to restore the balance between body and mind.
This method, based on the idea of valuing the individual by combining Eastern and Western principles, combines a physical approach with philosophy and psychology. Introduced in Europe in 1982, it is constantly evolving.
Californian massage stimulates the nervous system through fluid, gentle movements that create unexpected effects, capable of freeing the mind from distracting thoughts to promote total relaxation.
It connects the lower body to the upper body, links the right side with the left, and promotes energy rebalancing and harmony between the mind and body.
The Californian massage helps to:
• stimulate the lymphatic, circulatory and immune systems
• eliminate waste products and metabolic by-products
• stimulate the production of endorphins
• alleviate the symptoms of fibromyalgia
• reduce stress, anxiety and insomnia
• release blocked emotions and reconnect the individual with reality
The Californian massage is performed using massage oil, which can be enhanced with the properties of essential oils if desired.
It is a total body massage, which can be tailored to a specific area depending on the client’s needs.
